Rooted in Cheyenne
Rooted in Cheyenne is Wyoming's pioneer for engaging residents in establishing a greener community. Since 2017, Mark Ellison and a group of volunteers have made it their mission to grow the town's tree canopy and empower residents to care and advocate for trees! This year, the community will celebrate planting the 2,000th tree since its inception! Rooted in Cheyenne has graciously mentored Rooted in Laramie over the years, providing technical and strategic support along with numerous volunteers who drive west to join in Laramie's planting day! City of Laramie
The city of Laramie has been an invaluable partner as we seek to grow our urban forest. In 2019, City Arborist Randy Overstreet and other founders had a vision for engaging citizens in investing in and caring for our beautiful tree canopy. After Randy retired, City Arborist Kyle Peep jumped in and advises our board about tree selection and planting site considerations. Kyle facilitates storage for our trees between delivery and planting day, providing us water and mulch access. The Greenhill cemetery provides us a large gathering space for the logistics of planting day. Each year, Rooted in Laramie board members join with Kyle to plant trees for Arbor Day. Thank you Kyle for sharing your time and expertise with us - we are so appreciative for how the city supports our mission each year!
